CMF for Elante Semi-Automatic Washing Machine
Designed at CXD Havells, India
The aim of the project was to create a sophisticated product that stands out in the market, while also incorporating simple functionality and premium material finishes that is suitable for manufacturing setups in India.
Inspired by the bold aesthetics of supercars, every curve, detail, hinge and part was carefully examined to ensure a seamless and elegant design. Elante is intentionally crafted to meet the needs of the Indian Market.
As the CMF designer, my process began by closely studying the market and analysing current trends to determine how we could create a unique and captivating product. I worked closely with the industrial design team to ensure that every material, colour and finish choice served a specific purpose in the overall design, creating a cohesive and intentional product.
When designing, great care was taken to consider the finish of each surface. The glossy finish on the top panel was specifically chosen to accentuate and highlight the curves of the machine, while the matte finish used under the lid creates a tactile and satisfying interaction when opening and closing the machine. The use of bold, never-seen-before colours in these areas adds a visual interest and draws the eye, further enhancing the design. Additionally, the use of the same colour in the side hinge and wheels creates a sense of continuity and functionality. Every surface was carefully considered and chosen to not only look great, but to also provide a positive user experience.
The result is an elegant product with bold and never-seen-before colours specifically tailored for the Indian market. The attention to detail in both design and finish has produced an award-winning washing machine.
Elante XL
As part of the Elante design project, Elante XL - a premium variant of the original design was also developed.
In keeping with the Elante brand, a similar colour palette was proposed and a few new and exciting experiments were tried to push the boundaries of what was possible. One such experiment involved painting the lid deco with a metallic colour in a satin finish, adding sophistication to the design. Another experiment involved moulding the control panel in transparent plastic, which added depth to the graphics that were screen printed on top. Additionally, several surface patterns were tried by digitally printing on the glass bottom to add visual interest. These CMF experiments were aimed at introducing newness and excitement to the Indian market.
